WealthPlanner

Financial advisors and the directory

Does WealthPlanner recommend financial advisors?

Short answer

No. WealthPlanner is building a directory of fee-only advisory firms drawn from SEC Form ADV and IAPD public records, but it does not recommend, verify, endorse or rate any firm. The directory is not open yet. Until it is, the guide below shows how to check an advisor yourself in the same public records.

What the directory will show

Each firm profile shows facts from the firm's own regulatory filings, dated, with a way to request a correction or removal. A firm is listed as fee-only only when its Form ADV supports that label. A firm can claim its profile, but claiming does not mean WealthPlanner has verified it.

Checking an advisor yourself

Two free government-run databases show an advisor's registration and disciplinary history: the SEC's Investment Adviser Public Disclosure site and FINRA BrokerCheck. A firm's Form ADV Part 2A brochure, available on the SEC site, states how the firm is paid.
