WealthPlanner

For advisory firms

Where does WealthPlanner get its information about advisory firms?

Short answer

From public regulatory records: the Form ADV data that firms file with the SEC and state regulators, and the Investment Adviser Public Disclosure (IAPD) records for firms and their representatives. WealthPlanner reproduces those facts with their filing date. It does not change or verify them.

What comes from the filing, and what comes from the firm

The fee-only statement, compensation categories, location, assets under management and disciplinary disclosure flag come from the filing. A claimed firm can add its own bio, specialties, client types and account minimum, and those fields are labelled "As stated by the firm".

Individual advisers

A firm's profile links to pages for its investment adviser representatives, built from IAPD records. Those pages are kept out of search engines. WealthPlanner's data for individuals does not include disclosure events, so each page sends readers to the person's record on the SEC's Investment Adviser Public Disclosure site.
